Dr. Omar Janneh writes on a wide range of issues affecting The Gambia, including the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC), governance, political leadership, democracy, constitutionalism, accountability, institutional integrity, opposition politics, land, social justice, national development, and gender, culture, tradition and rights issues. His essays seek to combine critical scrutiny with pragmatic reflection, challenging political actors, institutions and citizens to consider how The Gambia can build an honest, stronger, more responsible and accountable political leadership that addresses the legitimate aspirations of the people.
Dr. Janneh has published some 38 high-impact, peer-reviewed research papers in a range of academic journals, with more than 1,500 citations, as listed on ResearchGate.
More recently, he has devoted some of his writing to issues affecting his country of birth, The Gambia, while also exploring the broader question of leadership failure. In his view, failures of leadership are not unique to The Gambia but seems to represent a challenge faced by countries around the world. Many of his essays are opinion pieces, some informed by academic research and subsequently cited by other writers in their work.
His interests extend beyond politics and governance to the wider challenges of sustainable development and the building of stronger societies and institutions. Dr Janneh is also interested in the many dimensions of sustainable development and what is required to build a more sustainable future.
Dr Janneh hopes that the younger generation will do better- that they will help save our world, protect its future, and ensure that development continues in a sustainable way; not be parasitic about it; that is take all and cause harm.
Education and Medical School Interview Insights
Dr Omar Janneh is passionate about education and believes that everyone should have a fair opportunity to access medical, dental and veterinary education.
He wants to help level the playing field. Through his Medical School Interview Insights sessions, he provides supportive and practical guidance to applicants preparing for medical, dental and veterinary school interviews. The sessions are offered at a reasonable fee.
However, preparing for an interview should not begin only when an invitation arrives. By then, there may be very little time to prepare. Once you have applied and know the universities you are hoping to attend, you can begin preparing in anticipation of being invited to interview.
This is not a sales pitch. It is simply good advice: do not wait until you receive an interview invitation before you start preparing. Start as early as possible. The preparation will pay off.
